Based at Nine Yards (Sandy Flatts Lane) and community venues across
Middlesbrough and Tees Valley
Help people keep their homes warm, healthy and affordable.
A warm home can be the foundation for better health, security and opportunity. At Nine Yards, we are looking for a compassionate and approachable person to join our Affordable Warmth team and make a real difference for people facing cold homes, rising energy costs and financial pressure.
As our Project Officer – Affordable Warmth (Community Outreach), you will take advice and support directly into the community. Working through the Eco Shop Network and other local venues, you will listen to residents and support them to move forward with confidence.
This could mean helping someone reduce their energy costs, improve their home comfort, access financial support or energy efficiency measures, or connect with another service that can help. You do not need to have all the answers on day one, full training and ongoing support will be provided, but you will need to be someone who can build trust, explain things clearly and treat people with dignity and respect.
You will work closely with our Eco Shop Network Co-ordinator, Affordable Warmth colleagues, volunteers and local partners to make sure people can access the right support at the right time.
We are looking for someone who:
- Cares about helping people facing poverty, fuel insecurity or other challenges
- Can communicate clearly, sensitively and without judgement
- Has experience working directly with people in a community, advice, support, customer service, health, housing or similar setting
- Is organised and confident managing appointments, records, referrals and follow up
- Enjoys building relationships with community organisations, volunteers and partners
- Is willing to learn and undertake relevant affordable warmth and energy advice training
- Can travel independently and reliably across Middlesbrough and the wider Tees Valley
What we offer
You will join a supportive, collaborative team committed to creating practical, lasting change for people, places and the planet across Tees Valley. Alongside a meaningful role, we offer flexible working where possible, 26 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, four additional days’ Christmas closure leave, a 4% employer pension contribution, Simply Health cash plan, Cycle to Work Scheme, paid volunteering leave and ongoing learning and development.
Closing date: noon on Tuesday 22 September 2026
Interviews: Tuesday 29 September 2026
