At Nine Yards, sustainability means caring for people, place and planet.
We recognise the climate crisis and the part we can all play in creating a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable future. That is why we are committed to embedding sustainability at the heart of everything we do.
Our work aligns with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and supports the aims of the 2015 Paris Agreement.
Our Focus
Nine Yards is particularly focused on contributing to:
Our approach to sustainability is holistic. We know that sustainability is not only about reducing emissions, but also about improving health and wellbeing, tackling inequality, protecting nature, and helping communities feel more connected.
Our approach brings together environmental, social, governance, and cultural priorities. This helps us make decisions that are good for the planet, good for people, and right for the communities we work with.
We are already using renewable energy for our electricity supply, have a fleet of electric vehicles, and do on-site composting. We also have a Sustainable Development Plan and a Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan to ensure best practice as we grow as a charity. But we know we can do more.
To support our journey through sustainability, we have developed an Environmental, Social, Governance and Culture Committee. The committee helps ensure that we:
- reduce our greenhouse gas emissions
- enhance biodiversity
- promote responsible land management
- operate ethically and sustainably
- work with communities to support sustainable and healthy lifestyles
Read our Environment Policy to learn more about how we work to minimise our environmental impact.
One of the key principles of our approach is continuous improvement. We are working to better understand our environmental impact so we can set an ambitious, realistic net zero target based on data about our emissions. We are also developing a net zero strategy to make sure that this target is one that we met.
We recognise that environmental impacts don’t stop at our door. That is why we are developing a Sustainable Procurement Procedure to help reduce resource use and lower emissions across our supply chain.
Nine Yards is also committed to helping businesses, organisations and communities become more sustainable. Through our in-house expertise, we can offer training, practical support and bespoke advice to help others take action.
