Accurate bills — no more estimates
Smart meters automatically send your energy usage to your supplier, so your bills are based on actual usage, not guesswork. That helps avoid overpaying or surprise charges.
See your energy use in real time
You get an in-home display showing how much energy you’re using and how much it’s costing you — updated regularly. This makes it easier to understand and reduce consumption.
Helps you manage and reduce costs
Seeing live usage can motivate behaviour changes that cut energy waste and lower bills. Many people reduce their energy use after installing one.
Access to better tariffs
Some energy deals — especially time-of-use or off-peak tariffs that charge less at certain times — are only available if you have a smart meter.
Easier for prepayment customers
If you’re on prepayment, smart meters let you top up remotely (online/app) and see your credit on the in-home display, helping avoid running out unexpectedly.
No need for manual readings *
If you struggle to read your meter due to its location, then a smart meter will take this burden away. The readings are sent securely and automatically
(We would still recommend checking bills for accurate readings*)
How do I sign up for a smart meter?
Contact your energy supplier, they will let you know when they are installing smart meters in your area.
There will be no extra cost for your SMART meter installation; it will be fitted by a trained meter installer. Before they arrive, make sure you know where your current meters are located and check they’re easy to access.
